Blair Berthelot Alford Announces Candidacy for 22nd Judicial District Court Judge, Division C
St. Tammany native and former violent crimes prosecutor highlights decades of courtroom experience and a commitment to firm, fair justice.
COVINGTON, LA - Blair Berthelot Alford, a former violent crimes prosecutor who has tried more than 100 jury trials, announced today her candidacy for 22nd Judicial District Court Judge (Division C) - bringing more than 16 years of courtroom experience and a career dedicated to public safety, accountability, and justice.
A lifelong resident of St. Tammany Parish, Alford was born and raised in the community she now seeks to serve. She attended River Forest Academy (now Kehoe-France) for her early education and graduated from St. Scholastica Academy before earning a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a law degree from Loyola University New Orleans.
Alford spent more than 12 years as a violent crimes prosecutor, building a reputation as one of the District Attorney’s most experienced and effective trial attorneys. During her tenure, she prosecuted serious felony cases, stood before juries in more than 100 trials, and was repeatedly entrusted with handling the most complex and high-stakes matters.
“For victims and the officers who protect our communities, justice is ultimately obtained in the courtroom,” Alford said. “I know what it means to prepare cases carefully, respect the process, and ensure that victims are heard. As judge, I will bring order, fairness, and consistency to the courtroom every single day.”
Alford earned multiple professional honors, including the Outstanding Prosecutor Award from Victims and Citizens Against Crime and the Crimefighters Award for Outstanding Work as a Prosecutor. She was also selected to mentor and train other prosecutors in trial practice, evidentiary issues, and courtroom strategy - an acknowledgment of her judgment, preparation, and professionalism.
After leaving public service, Alford transitioned to private practice, where she now focuses on civil litigation. This experience has given her a broad and balanced understanding of how judicial decisions affect not only victims and defendants, but also families, businesses, and the broader communities of St. Tammany and Washington Parishes.
“Judges must manage both criminal and civil dockets firmly, fairly, and efficiently,” Alford said. “My experience in both arenas gives me a clear understanding of what it takes to keep cases moving while ensuring that every person is treated with respect and according to the law.”
Alford believes strongly in the rule of law, personal responsibility, and a justice system that is unbiased, consistent, and timely. She is running for judge to ensure that cases are handled without unnecessary delay and that the courtroom remains a place defined by order, integrity, and fairness.
An active member of the Northshore community, Alford lives in Covington with her husband, John Alford, where they are raising their four children. “Like so many families in our district, we depend on a justice system that works,” she said. “If elected as judge, I will uphold the highest standards, which is what the 22nd Judicial District Court deserves.”
